the grist mill bridge - wilford group

The Grist Mill Bridge

Location: Hampden, Maine

The Grist Mill Bridge is the first in the nation to use composite tub girders with no concrete reinforcement in the superstructure, say officials. The five fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite beams and other corrosion-resistant features are also expected to extend the design life of the hybrid composite concrete bridge by at least 100 years, according to Wayne Frankhauser, bridge program manager for the Maine Dept. of Transportation.

Recently opened to traffic, the bridge is part of an $8.9-million Hampden road reconstruction and paving project along a two-mile stretch of 1A scheduled for final completion in June. The two-lane bridge carries about 6,400 vehicles per day over the Souadabscook Stream, due north of downtown Hampden.

first composite bridge Duvall Washington - wilford group

AIT’s First Composite Arch Bridge System

Location: Duvall, Washington

This bridge is comprised of 12 fiberglass composite arches manufactured at AIT’s Brewer, Maine facility, and its construction marks several milestones. The bridge’s arches span 51 feet and were cut in half to facilitate cross-country shipping. The bridge required no transportation permits due to its ability to be cut and then easily reassembled on site. This bridge will also help facilitate the restoration of the stream that it traverses. The stream under the previous bridge was approximately five feet wide. It will now be widened and restored to its previous size of 20 feet to accommodate the return of fish and other wildlife to the area.

New England Alchemco Representatives
Alchemco’s unique biochemically-modified waterproofing technology is rapidly gaining acceptance in the North American marketplace, which has translated into a growing market share within the global concrete waterproofing industry.

We’re very proud that in early February of 2020, our hallmark offering (TechCrete 2500 Waterproofing Agent) was voted by the concrete industry as ‘Most Innovative Product’ during the globally attended World of Concrete Convention in Las Vegas, NV. This is an important new milestone for our company, but the story of TechCrete and Alchemco goes back well over forty years … to the mid-1970’s.
